What we set on Denver rooftops

We work for HVAC and mechanical contractors and general contractors on new construction, change-outs and replacements. Typical picks are rooftop units (RTUs), condensers, chillers, air handlers, exhaust fans and curbs. If the unit needs to come from the supplier first, our heavy haul trucks can pick it up and the same crew sets it.

1. Send the specs

Building address, unit weight and size from the spec sheet, roof height, target date.

2. We plan the lift

Crane size, placement and the set-up area on the street, lot or alley.

3. Site safety

Pre-lift screening, NCCCO-certified operators and Stop-The-Job authority on site.

4. Set and done

Units set on the curbs, crane off site, roof handed back.

Crane sizes for rooftop units

The right crane depends on three numbers: how much the heaviest unit weighs, how far it is from where the crane can set up to where the unit lands, and how tall the building is. A light unit on a low roof next to the curb needs far less crane than a chiller set deep on a tall building. We choose from our 30 to 400 ton range, from our yard or a trusted partner, after we see those numbers.

Street space, timing and weekends

Many Denver buildings leave no room for a crane except the street, the sidewalk or an alley. If the crane has to use the public right-of-way, a permit from the City and County of Denver may be needed, so tell us early and we will plan the set-up around it. Many rooftop sets happen early in the morning or on weekends to keep tenants and traffic moving, and Kran adds no union, weekend or overtime charges.
